ON SEVEN ROOMS
To stay on Kuroshima is to gain the two ends of the day a day trip can never reach — the morning before the boats arrive, the night after they leave. 01 / FROM THE PIER, BY BICYCLE
About 25 to 30 minutes by high-speed boat from Ishigaki Port (tourism association; Okinawa Story). Leave the port and the road soon runs in between the pastures. The stay begins not with touring the island but with slowing the day down to the speed of a bicycle.

Pastures open on both sides of the white lane; beyond the fences, the cattle graze. No destination is needed — the lagoon pools of Nakamoto Coast, the long reach of Iko Pier and the sea-turtle research institute all lie mid-detour. Watch the cattle quietly, from outside the fences: that alone fills this island’s noon.
